Founder/CIO (Personal Financial Psychiatrist)

Matt has more than 30 years of experience as a consultant in the financial services industry. After receiving a degree in economics from Harvard University, Matt, along with Jeff Karelis (now retired) founded Karelis, Sliwa & Associates. Since it's founding in 1993, their firm focused on financial planning, asset management, and protection needs of executives, professionals, pre-retirees, and retirees. KSP Financial has evolved, providing even more in-depth fiduciary guidance and asset stewardship for a select group of families.

Matt’s primary duty is to ensure clients develop and execute a strategy to address their life goals by creating and implementing financial plans and risk-appropriate investment portfolios. He is responsible for the office’s research initiatives, asset allocation, and tactical investments. Matt is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) practitioner and has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation. He is a member of the CFA Institute, and Boston Security Analysts Society and also holds the FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 65 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network®. In both 2013 and 2015, Matt was named to the Financial Times 400 Top Advisors list*.

Matt and his wife, Christina, reside in Newton with their three children. They are actively involved with charitable organizations representing disadvantaged children, education, veterans and faith. Outside of business, Matt’s hobbies include playing (over four decades) and coaching Newton Youth Hockey (13 years), traveling, reading, and time with extended family.

*FT 400: To compile the 2015 list, the Financial Times evaluated nominees on six primary areas and calculated a numeric score for each advisor. The areas of consideration were assets under management (AUM), asset growth, compliance record, experience, credentials, and accessibility. Approximately 1,488 qualified applications were received; 400 advisors were selected, representing 26.9 percent of applicants. Not indicative of advisor's future performance.
